Biographical History

Edwin F. Conroy was born in New York on October 15, 1890. His parents were [Edwin] and Effie M. Conroy, who lived in the Bronx, New York City, and he had one sister, Charlotte. He worked as a court officer in the West Farms Court before being drafted during World War I. Conroy became a private in Company B of the 114th Infantry, a regiment in the 29th "Blue and Gray" Division, and trained at Camp McClellan, Alabama, in May and June 1918. He embarked for France in mid-June 1918 and was wounded on October 12, 1918, while participating in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. After the war, he lived in the Bronx with his wife Anna, and had one son, Edwin.
