Jones was an engineer and employee of the Zia Company of Los Alamos, New Mexico. He also worked with the U.S. Forest Service Surveying Group during World War II.
J. Robert Jones of Los Alamos, New Mexico was trained as an engineer and spent over 18 years as an employee of the Zia Company, which supplied personnel and special services to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos. He was married to Carol C. Jones. During the Second World War, he became associated with the U.S. Forest Service Surveying Outfit assigned to the secret, war-time drafting of scaled contour maps of the islands of Japan and adjacent areas, including Borneo, which pinpointed heavy artillery placements, air fields, and other critical military sites.
After the war, he and his wife and daughters purchased a home in Los Alamos. He received a special commendation from the Zia Company, the Atomic Energy Commission, and officials at Los Alamos for his work.
He was born on August 25, 1914.
