Edsger W. Dikjstra was originally from Holland, and while working his way through college, decided to devote more time to programming and less to theoretical physics, eventually becoming a early programmer in the just-developing profession. He was a professor in the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. It isn't very clear what his connection was to Burroughs.
Dutch theoretical physicist and computer scientist. Born 1930; began programming in 1952 at the Mathematisch Centrum. Became a professor of mathematics at Eindhoven University of Tecnology in 1962, adding work as a research fellow with Burroughts Corporation in 1973. In 1984 left the Netherlands to accept the Schlumberger Centenial Chair in the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. Died in 2002.
