Biographical History

The Southern Baptist Commission on the American Baptist Seminary is an agency of the Southern Baptist Convention. The American Baptist Seminary, an institution of higher learning for the training of black ministers and religious workers, was established in Nashville, Tennessee in 1924. The seminary is jointly owned and controlled by the National Baptist Convention, Inc. and the Southern Baptist Convention.

The objective of the Commission is to "act as laison between the National Baptist Convention of the U.S.A., Inc. and the Southern Baptist Convention in matters relating to the American Baptist Theological Seminary and through the Seminary to assist generally in developing a strong program of ministerial education for National Baptists."
