Biographical History

The identity of the author of this document is unclear, but it may be Jacob Welsh, a 1774 graduate of Harvard College. Jacob Welsh (1755-1822) received an AB from Harvard in 1774 and served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Following the war he unsuccessfully tried to patent carding and spinning equipment, and tried to find employment in the construction and development of Washington D.C. Welsh lived in Lunenburg, Mass. and represented the town in the Massachusetts General Court in 1795 and 1800. In 1810, Welsh moved to Geauga County, Ohio and helped found the town of Troy, Ohio. Welsh died on April 19, 1822.
