Biographical History
Otto Morando was a famous tenor and teacher. He was born in Prague 1869, and died on November 16, 1953 in Los Angeles. After study in Austria and Italy he sang opera in various European centers before turning to teaching. During his years in Toronto, teaching privately and at the Canadian Academy of Music, 1913-1924, he developed many young singers, among them Eva Baird, Mary Bothwell, Douglas Stanbury, Margaret George, Gideon Hicks, John Moncriff, Nellye Gill, and Victor Edmonds. Morando moved to California in 1924 and was active there as a voice coach for film celebrities, notably Francho Tone, Bebe Daniels, Joan Crawford, Marion Davies, and Charlotte Greenwood.
