Biographical History
Elizabeth Burtner was a professor of dance at The George Washington University. She is credited with introducing modern dance into the curriculum, increasing dance performances, and organizing more dance groups. Burtner graduated from Hood College in 1927 with a bachelor's degree in Dance, and received a master's degree from Columbia University in 1935. She joined the faculty of GW in 1938 as a dance instructor and archery coach in the Physical Education Department.
