Mabel Kathryn Powers was born in Le Sueur, Minnesota in 1905. She earned her B.A. in 1925 from the College of St. Catherine (St. Paul, MN), her M.A. in 1947 and Ph.D. in psychology in 1955 from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Powers joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1947, after serving as a rehabilitation counselor for amputees in Navy hospitals during World War II (1943-1946). She was appointed the rank of senior instructor in psychology and promoted to assistant professor in 1955, associate professor in 1959 and professor in 1970. In 1961, Dr. Powers was appointed as coordinator of student advising in the College of Liberal Arts, and later accepted the position of director of the Upper Division Office (1964-1973). Dr. Powers retired from the University of Minnesota in 1973 as professor emeritus. Mabel Powers died on November 4, 1987.
