Biographical History

Charles Laurence Baker (1887-1979), a geologist, mapped coal and structure in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming for the U.S.G.S. in 1909, discovered the Craddock Ranch "bone bed", mapped the Trans-Pecos area of West Texas and worked in Mexico and Brazil. He worked for Rio Bravo Oil Co., Standard Oil Co, and Cities Service Oil Co., and taught geology and economic geology at the University of Texas and Texas A & M.

Charles Laurence Baker wasa structural geologist. He worked with the United States Geological Survey, the Southern Pacific Railway, Standard Oil Company of California, Rio Bravo Oil Company, L. E. Hanchett, East Coast Oil Company of America, and Tidewater Oil Company. Baker was chairman of the geology department of Texas A&m University, and worked for the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin. Baker was known as a geologic explorer, and authored nearly fifty books and papers. He died in 1979.
