Biographical History
Reverend Daniel Lee, pioneer Methodist missionary, was born on July 1, 1806 in Stanstead, Quebec. Following his ordination in 1834, Daniel traveled overland to Oregon with his uncle, Jason Lee. They established the Willamette Mission at Mission Bottom (near Salem). After spending two years (1835-1836) in the Sandwich Islands, he returned to Oregon and soon was assigned to the Indian mission at The Dalles, where he served from 1838 to 1843. Daniel Lee married Maria T. Chapin Ware in 1840. Upon resigning his missionary post in Oregon, Lee returned to the East and eventually became a minister in Oklahoma. Daniel Lee died on July 22, 1895.
