Biographical History

In 1901 Michigan Mining School (now Michigan Technological University) in Houghton, Michigan received funding for two additional buildings. The Civil and Mining Engineering Building, was built at a cost of $28,880, was a two-story hip-roofed structure with a five-story tower centered on the front. The brick building had a high sandstone basement and a number of round-arched windows, adding to the Italian Renaissance Revival feel. In 1925, an addition was added to the building. The building was renamed Sperr Hall in 1938 in honor of mining and civil engineering professor Frederick W. Sperr. The building was demolished in 1970.
