Biographical History

Jean Mitchell Blyth was born in 1914, the daughter of David Blythe, an assistant manager of a furniture shop in Glasgow. She attended Whitehill Secondary School, Glasgow and bgean her studies at the University of Glasgow in 1932. In her first year at University, 1932-1933, she studied Geology, History and Latin. In her second year, 1933-1934, she took classes in English, History and Political Economy. In 1934-1935 she studied Constitutional Law and History, History and Moral Philosophy. In her final year at University, 1935-1936, she studied History. In 1933-1934 she was awarded a certificate in Ordinary Class IV for History. Also in 1933-1934 she was awarded a prize for General Excellence in Latin. She graduated with an Honours MA (2nd Class) in History in 1936. She married Douglas H Ross in 1941.
