Biographical History

Luella J. Hall (1890- ) was a professor of Geography and History at Hartnell Junior College in Salinas (c1937-1960). Although she received a Ph. D. from Stanford University for a dissertation on U.S. Moroccan relations, Hall's principal teaching assignments at Hartnell seem to have been: Latin America, International Relations, and Amerindians. Over some twenty years, with the help of students, she amassed the large clippings file pertaining to these topics which constitutes the bulk of this collection.

Luella Jemima Hall, born October 18, 1890, was the daughter of Martin O. Hall. She attended the University of North Dakota, earning a B.A. in 1917 and a M.A. in 1919. Her master's thesis was titled "County Boundaries in North Dakota, 1849-1916." She joined the UND faculty and served as advisor to Delta Zeta, a women's fraternity. In about 1923, she wrote "The Early History of Mohall, North Dakota." By 1925, she had moved to California, where she taught at Lodi. Luella earned the Ph. D. in History from Stanford University in 1937, titling her doctoral dissertation "The United States and the Moroccan Problem." In 1937, she accepted a position at Hartnell Junior College (Salinas, Cal.), where she served as a professor of Geography and History until 1960. She died on June 18, 1973.
