Biographical History

Artist, author, genealogist. A founder of the Artists' Club of Denver and of the Denver Art Museum, she was well known for landscapes.

Denver, Colo. artist. B. 1859 Charleston, Ill.; d. Jan. 8, 1946 Denver. Besides her art work, Miss Bromwell did genealogical research and maintained files on Colorado pioneers and early residents. Studied art at the University of Denver. With Anne Evans, organized the Artists' Club of Denver, which later evolved into the Denver Art Museum.

Henrietta E. Bromwell (1859-1946), artist, author and historian, was the daughter of Congressman Henry Pelham Holmes Bromwell. At the age of 11, Henrietta and her family moved to Denver. Henrietta attended the University of Denver to study art. Her art has been exhibited in Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York. In 1903, after publishing some of her father's writings, Henrietta started researching Colorado history and published several articles in western magazines as well as several books including Colorado portrait and biographical index, which was published in 1926. She died in 1946.
