Biographical History

Roy Wilford Riegle, usually going by his middle name, was born 27 April 1896 in Lyons, Rice County, Kansas. He earned his training as a lawyer and served in the United States Army during WWI in Company L, 137th Infantry 35th Division. On 3 June 1923 Riegle married Keith Maria Roberts. Riegle practiced law in the Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas area. He served multiple terms in both the Kansas House of Representatives and the State Senate as a Republican. He was an active member of the Knights Templar, a Christian fraternal organization that is also part of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and he was also on the Kansas State Historical Society Board of Directors, serving as President in 1957. Riegle died 2 February 1988.
