Biographical History

John Krill is a paper conservator at Winterthur Museum. He wrote a paper on Harrison Elliott, who was a noted 20th century maker of handmade paper. Elliott was born in New York City in 1879. He went to work for the International Paper Company in 1903, and in 1925 joined the Japan Paper Company. He became interested in the history of paper making, began to make his own paper, and wrote a number of articles on the subject. Elliott amassed a collection about making paper, which he donated to the Library of Congress. He died in 1954.
