Rufus King of Yonkers, New York, was a banker by profession as well as a respected genealogist. The son of Rufus Sylvester and Phoebe Odell King, his ancestors included the revolutionary war veteran and New York State Senator Rufus King, after whom he was named. He researched members of the Odell family, descendants of William Odell, fl. 1635, who settled in Rye, New York.
Rufus King was a convinced Quaker who served in the Confederate Army. After he joined Friends, he was recorded a minister. He m. Alice Carr. In 1875-76, he traveled among Friends in England and Ireland.
