Biographical History
After World War II a highly competitive information industry expanded into new formats: microcards, microfiche, aperture cards, and experimental retrieval machines. The National Microfilm Association, founded in 1944, sought to set standards for microreproduction and to protect the industry from foreign competition, unscrupulous entrepreneurs, and opposition from the paper and printing industries.
