Biographical History

Author and literay critic. Deputy General Manager, Australian Broadcasting Commission, 1965-1977. Author of numerous publications on Australian literature including studies of Banjo Paterson, Douglas Stewart and Kenneth Slessor. Published his memoirs, "Pictures on the margin", in 1991.

Semmler, Clement William, MA. was born 23/12/1914 at Mercunda, S.A. and educated at Murray Bridge High School & the University of Adelaide. From 1942 to 1946 he was Supervisor of Youth Education, A.B.C., S.A. and Assistant Director of Variety, 1947-1948. He studied TV in Europe and America 1955-1956. In 1960 he was appointed Assistant General Manager ABC (Programmes).
