Amal Ghosh was born in 1933 in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal. After studying at Calcutta’s Government College of Art and Craft, he went on to complete a postgraduate degree at London’s Central St Martins College of Art & Design after moving to Britain in the 1960s. He later received an MA from Calcutta University in 1972 as well as another postgraduate in Art Therapy from the Hertfordshire College of Art, St Albans in 1982.

Principally a studio artist, he is also known for large scale murals in public places, with works in places as diverse as hospitals, libraries and cricket grounds. He has held several solos and group exhibitions in Asia, UK and USA including ‘Between Two Cultures’ at the London Barbican, ‘Transition of Riches’ at Birmingham Museum, ‘Confluence’ at Gallery Asiana in New York, and ‘Contemporary Paintings’ at the William Morris Gallery, London.
