Biographical History

Frederick C. Waite was a medical educator who helped establish higher standards for medical and dental schools in the U.S. He founded the Dept. of Histology and Embryology at Western Reserve University Medical and Dental Schools in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was professor from 1901-40. Waite visited and inspected virtually every medical and dental school in the U.S. before and after World War I. He was a prolific author, particularly after his retirement, writing books on the history of the WRU Medical & Dental Schools. Waite was the son of Nelson and Cynthia Post Waite, and gathered extensive genealogical information pertaining to the Post family, particularly the children of Zina and Marena Post of Hudson, Ohio. He also collected genealogical information pertaining to the Devol family, which was descended from the Cooke, Soule and Warren families, passengers on the Mayflower.

From the description of Genealogies of the Post and Devol families, 1853-1954. (Rhinelander District Library). WorldCat record id: 23730652
