Biographical History
John Ruggles, originally from Westboro, began in business in Thomaston in 1810. He attended Brown University Law School and began his practice in Skowhegan in 1815. He returned to Thomaston in 1818 with his office at Mill River. He was elected Town Clerk in 1819. In 1828, he was on the first Board of the Thomaston Mutual Fire Insurance Company. During the 1820's, he served as moderator, town agent, and Representative to the Legislature. In 1831, he was appointed Judge of Common Pleas. In 1834, he unsuccessfully ran for the Senate. He is last listed in the Maine Register as an attorney in 1875.
Albert P. Gould, a native of Bowdoinham, attended Harvard Law School and graduated in 1844. He practiced law as a partner with Hon. John Ruggles. In 1861, he became a state representative. He was last listed in the Maine Register as an attorney in 1888 in Thomaston.
