Biographical History
James Pomeroy Hendrick (1901-1990), lawyer, was a civilian assistant to Secretary of War Robert P. Patterson during World War II. From 1946 to 1948, he served worked at the State Department, serving as an advisor to Eleanor Roosevelt, contributing to the establishment of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In the late 1940s, Hendrick served as a special foreign aid representative in Vietnam, and later in the U.S. Treasury Department in the 1960s. He later moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands where he worked as head of the parole board until his retirement in 1988.
