Born Bendigo, Victoria 1890. In 1921 he moved permanently to Queensland to full-time writing and journalism. From 1924 to 1943 he published a weekly column of nature notes for the Brisbane Courier-Mail under the pseudonym 'Fabian' Devaney was president of the Queensland Authors' and Artists' Association (later the FAW).
Author; came to Queensland in 1922 and was a patient at Westwood Sanitarium for over a year where he wrote Fabian; other publications include Earth Kindred, Where the wind goes, and The vanished tribes.
