Biographical History
George Graham (1770-1830) served as acting US Secretary of War from 1815-1818, president of the Washington branch of the Bank of America from 1817-1823, and from 1823-1830 as commissioner of the general land office of the United States. In 1818 Graham traveled to Galveston, Texas on a secret mission to obtain information on French exiles in Texas. He also inspected the Texas coast with pirate Jean Lafitte and wrote an account of his mission, the first Anglo-American description of a sea voyage to Texas.
Cass was the territorial governor of Michigan, 1813-1831, and Graham was an agent in the Indian Affairs Office, later the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
