Kremlin Lutheran Church (Kremlin, Mont.)

In the early 1900s, many people of Scandinavian descent came to homestead in the Kremlin area. Feeling the need for a church and Christian fellowship, a small group met in a two-room schoolhouse. On July 2, 1911 they established a Lutheran congregation.

To begin with, services were conducted in Norwegian, and pastors came from long distances to hold services in school houses, a Methodist Church, and in the Post Office building. In 1934 the congregation moved to the basement of the Methodist church where they shared costs. In 1947 a building fund was started and in 1952 St. Paul’s building was purchased in Havre. The building was moved and completed in time for services in 1953. In 1954 an electric organ was purchased, and in 1956 the building was insulated.
