Biographical History

The National League of Women Voters was designed on a local, state and national level and the Carbondale chapter was founded in 1926 after Illinois joined the League in 1925. The mission of the League was to bring important issues of both policy and government to local women. The local league was involved with topics and events that were prominent both locally and nationally. Some of their efforts included work with the Illinois Constitutional Convention, public housing, the integration of education and various political debates.
