Biographical History

David Preston is a renowned Australian artist, best recognised for his delicately detailed linocuts and beautiful landscape and flower paintings in oil. Born in 1948 in Sydney Australia, David graduated from the National Art School in 1971, and in 1978 established Etchers Press in Brett Whitely's Reiby Place Studio in Sydney.

Roy Davies began wood engraving in 1921 and his first published print, Cattleman's Hut was executed in 1922. At that time, Lionel Lindsay was also beginning to work in the wood engraving technique, and through the illustrator David Barker, Lindsay contacted Davies and invited him to his studio. In 1923 Davies exhibited 12 wood engravings at Tyrrell's Limited, Elizabeth Street, Sydney, in an Exhibition of Woodcuts; in the same year, two wood engravings were reproduced in Art in Australia. The artist exhibited regularly with the Society of Artists and held two one-man exhibitions in Sydney. In 1926 he exhibited with the Sydney Art Salon.

Alun Leach-Jones was born in Maghull, England and grew up in Wales. He studied at the Liverpool College of Art in 1955-57, served in the British Army of the Rhine 1958-59. After migrating to Australia in 1960 he undertook further studies at the South Australian School of Art during 1960-63. While primarily considered a painter, Leach-Jones studied printmaking in Adelaide and in the mid-1960s began an enduring screenprinting collaboration with Larry Rawlings. In subsequent years Leach-Jones has also undertaken printmaking projects with several other printers and workshops, also producing etchings, woodcuts and lithographs.
