Biographical History
Timothy Francis O'Keefe (b. 1919, Brooklyn, N.Y.-d. Oct. 14, 1984), U.S. Air Force officer, completed flight training and received his commission in the Army Air Corps Reserve in 1940. He became operations and training staff officer, 13th Air Force, in the Southwest Pacific in 1944. After the War, he was assigned to Army Air Force HQ and then served as commander of the Primary Pilot Training School. After further officer training and U.S. assignments, he went to Japan as deputy for operations, Far East Air Materiel Command. During the Korean War he served as commander, 6147th Tactical Control Group, key in developing tactical air control used later in Vietnam. During the 1950s, General O'Keefe was deputy commander, 366th Fighter Bomber Wing and 83rd Fighter Wing, and commander, 4th Tactical Fighter Wing. In 1960 he was assigned to the 17th Air Force in Germany as deputy chief of staff, operations. He returned to Japan in 1967 as vice commander, 5th Air Force. Prior to his retirement in 1974, he served as commander, U.S. Support Activities Group/7th Air Force with HQ in Thailand.
