Biographical History

Edward Earle (1811-1877), son of Timothy and Ruth Keese Earle, was born in Leicester, Mass. After attending schools in Leicester, he completed his education at the Friends School in Providence, R.I. He moved to Worcester, Mass., in 1832 and engaged in various businesses with success. He was elected a selectman of Worcester in 1843 and a representative to the Massachusetts General Court in 1851. In 1853, he was an alderman and from 1861-1871 he was a member of the school committee. He was elected mayor of Worcester in 1871 and served one term. He was for many years a member and chairman of the Board of State Charities and was one of the founders of the American Social Science Association. He died in Worcester.
