Biographical History
Sir Neville Reginald Howse, V.C., K.C.B., K.C.M.G., F.R.C.S., came to Australia in 1886 and practised medicine at Taree, N.S.W. and later at Orange, N.S.W. He had a notable military career winning the Victoria Cross during the Boer War and became Surgeon-General in the Australian Army Medical Services during World War I in 1915. From 1921-1925 he was Director-General of Military Medical Services in Australia. In 1922 he was elected to the House of Representatives as a Nationalist Party member for Calare and held portfolios in Defence, Health, Home and Territories and Repatriation. He was defeated in the 1929 elections.
