Reverand Walter S. South (1824-1897) was a Methodist clergyman, farmer, and circuit rider, born in Kentucky. He moved to Texas in 1847, settling in the town of Bryan in Brazos County, Texas in 1863. South’s duties as a circuit rider required him to travel throughout Texas in an effort to minister to settlers and organize congregations.
