Biographical History

A draftsman when he joined the Ford Motor Company in 1907, Berghoff soon moved into the Tool Design Department. He became involved in tractor operations in 1917, assisting in the development of the Fordson Tractor in England. In 1926, Berghoff was part of a Ford Motor Company group traveling to Russia to survey the use and servicing of tractors and to consider sites for establishing a factory. Upon return to the U.S., he worked on tool engineering in the changeover from the Model T to the Model A. He left Ford for a period beginning in 1929 to work for Amtorg Trading Corporation, the Soviet Union's trade representative in the United States. Berghoff returned to Ford in 1935.
