Biographical History
George Walton, a Savannah lawyer, was one of three Georgia signatories of the Declaration of Independence. In addition, he served Georgia as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress, as a United States senator, chief justice, and was elected as governor twice. Located in Augusta, Georgia, Meadow Garden was the primary residence of George Walton from 1792 until his death in 1804. Since 1901, Meadow Garden has operated as a house museum.
Susan Frances Barrow was born in Athens in 1908. She attended the University of Georgia and received an A.B. in 1930 and a M.A. in 1938. In 1932, she married William Tate. She worked for the University of Georgia from 1954-1976 and died in 2003.
