Biographical History

Painters.

Emil Carlsen (1853-1932) was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He came to the U.S. in 1872, and worked in New York City. He trained his son, Dines (1901-1966). Helen Elizabeth Keep was a painter in Detroit, Mich., who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She greatly admired the still life painting of Emil Carlsen and sought his advice regarding her own.
