Biographical Note: Wilhelm Braune was a German philologist.

He was born in Germany, Feb. 2, 1850. He studied at the University of Leipzig with the noted German philologist, Friedrich Karl Theodor Zarncke (1825-1891) and taught at the University of Leipzig (1876-1880) and the University of Geiessen (1876-1880) before joining the faculty at the University of Heidelberg (1888-1912). Braune founded the journal, "Beitrage zur Geschichte der Deutsche Sprache und Literatur." Wilhelm Braune died in Hidelberg, Nov. 10, 1926.
