Henry Selby Clarke (1809-1869) of Beaufort County, N.C., graduated from the University of North Carolina and served as a trustee of that institution, 1834-1854. He was a district solicitor, member of the State House of Commons, and member of the United States House of Representatives from North Carolina, 1845-1847, and afterwards a lawyer in Greenville, N.C.
