King Mongkut, also known as Rama IV (b. 18 October 1804, Bangkok, Siam–d. 1 October 1868, Bangkok, Siam), was the fourth monarch of Siam (Thailand) under the House of Chakri, ruling from 1851 to 1868. Following tradition, he became a Buddhist monk in 1824 and let the priesthood to ascended the throne in 1851.

King Mongkut was often seen as pro-British and is known for his involvement in the Bowring Treaty between the United Kingdom and Siam. During his reign, King Mongkut instituted cultural reforms like a European Style education for his royal relatives and improving women's rights. He hired school teacher Anna Leonowens for his children and their story is the basis for the book Anna and the King of Siam and the Rogers and Hammerstein musical the King and I.
