She received an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Rhode Island and an M.F.A. in creative writing from Emerson College. She worked in sales and marketing for fifteen years before doing what she really wanted to do: to write; she has worked as a writer since 1993. Her young book for middle readers, Tru Confessions, was honored by the Women's National Book Association and the New York Public Library in 1998.
