Mercy Otis Warren (1728-1814) was born in Barnstable, Mass., the daughter of James Otis (1702-1778) and Mary Allyne Otis (1702-1767). She was schooled with two of her brothers at the home of the Rev. Jonathan Russell (1689/90-1759) in Barnstable. In 1754 she married James Warren (1726-1808), a merchant and farmer active in Massachusetts politics from the time of the Revolution. Mercy Otis Warren was the author of plays, poetry, and other works, and is best known for her _History of the Rise, Progress, and Termination of the American Revolution_, published in 1805 by Ebenezer Larkin (1769?-1813). The Warrens had five sons: James, Jr. (1757-1821); Winslow (1759-1791); Charles (1762-1785); Henry (1764-1828); and George (1766-1800).
