Spence, William Blundell, 1815-1900
Variant namesW. Spence, born in England, studied painting in Florence, Paris and Munich. In 1840 he settled in Florence, where he took up residence in the Palazzo Corsi and became an art dealer and collector. In 1860 he inherited a fortune from his father and bought the Villa Medici in Fiesole, where he entertained numerous visitors, clients and friends in the theater he had built nearby. Spence died in Florence in 1900.
