Bright, John M. (John Morgan), 1817-1911
Variant namesJohn Morgan Bright (1817-1911) of Fayetteville, Tenn. began his career as a lawyer. He was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1847-1848. During the Civil War, he served as a Confederate general for Governor Isham G. Harris. From 1871-1881 he served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat from Tennessee, after which he returned to his law practice.
