Dougherty, Charles, 1850-1915
Variant namesFlorida Congressional Representative.
Born in Athens, Ga., October 15, 1850; attended the public schools of Athens and the University of Virginia at Charlottesville; moved to Florida in 1871 and settled near Port Orange where he engaged in planting until being elected as a member of the State house of representatives 1877-1885, and served as speaker in 1879. He was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses; (March 4, 1885-March 3, 1889).
After leaving office he resumed agricultural pursuits until being elected again as a member of the State house of representatives in 1891, 1892, 1911, and 1912. He served in the State senate 1895-1898. He died at Daytona Beach, Fla. in 1915.
