Educated at Melbourne Grammar School and Trinity College Cambridge. Studied law then began full-time novelist. In 1901 married Mary Williams, and settled at Beaumont, S.A., and in 1924 moved to 'Nangawooka' near Victor Harbour. Novels include Stifled laughter (1901), Herridge of reality swamp (1907), An Australian Rip Van Winkle (1921), Strabane of the Mulberry Hills (1929) and The mystery of Alfred Doubt (1937).
