Hart, USMC, served in both world wars and on expeditionary duty in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Haiti. He won the Navy Cross, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star as well as other medals and citations. At his retirement in 1954, Hart was Commanding General Fleet Marine Force, Pacific.
