Beginning in the 1920s, Charlie Spivak played trumpet in a variety of popular dance bands. In 1940, he formed his own band. It was one of the most popular big bands of the 1940s. In the 1960s, he moved to Greenville, South Carolina where he conducted an orchestra at a local restaurant. Irene Daye (1918-1971) was a singer for Gene Krupa's (1909-1973) band from 1938-1941, she joined Charlie Spivak's band in 1948; Irene Daye married Charlie Spivak in 1950.
