Poet and journalist, who emigrated to Queensland from London in 1881. He farmed on the Darling Downs, taught in private schools and later took up journalism. He lived for many years in Toowoomba. Mary Ann Owen was his mother's maiden name.

Evans was born in London in 1863 and in 1881 came to Queensland where he farmed on the Darling Downs. Later he worked as a journalist with the Queensland Tourist Bureau. His Collected verse, with an introduction by Firmin McKinnon, was published in 1928. Evans died in 1909.
