Rosemary Brown was a social worker, politician, writer, and social activities. Born in Jamaica in 1930, she moved to Canada in 1950 where she obtained an undergraduate degree in Women's Studies from McGill University and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of British Columbia. In 1972 she was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the New Democratic Party and served as a MLA for 14 years until 1986 when she retired from politics. Afterwards, she held various positions: Professor in Women Studies at Simon Fraser University, CEO for MATCH International, and Chief Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission. Rosemary passed away in 2003.
