Wilby, Francis Bowditch, 1883-1965
Variant namesFrancis Bowditch Wilby (b. April 24, 1883, Detroit, Mich.-d. Nov. 20, 1965), Major General in the U.S. Army, was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers upon graduation from West Point in 1905. He served as a member of the Mississippi River Commission from 1935 to 1938, and the Beach Erosion Board. Other assignments included chief of staff, First Army, and superintendent of West Point from 1942 to 1945. General Wilby retired in 1946.
