McArthur, John, 1826-1906
Variant namesMcArthur commanded the 12th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. General Henry M. Cist also served in the Civil War and was a military historian.

McArthur commanded the 12th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. After rising to Brigadier General, he led his troops on a May 1864 expedition from Vicksburg to Yazoo City, Miss., engaging in several skirmishes along the way.
